Spliethoff
Spliethoff's Bevrachtingskantoor B.V. was established in 1921 by Johan Frederik Spliethoff who, for many years, successfully worked as a shipbroker specialising in forest products from the Baltic to Western Europe.
In 1946 his son, the late Herman Spliethoff, took delivery of the company’s first new vessel, the MV Keizersgracht. The ship was named after the beautiful Amsterdam canal where Mr Spliethoff had his offices.
Ever since then the vessels have borne the names of canals ('Grachts') and this has become the trademark of the company.
Today, still an independent company, Spliethoff manages a fleet of 55 multipurpose tweendeck vessels ranging in size from 8.000 to 20.000 tonnes.
This tonnage features: The high quality Dutch flag, highest Ice Class, large box holds and hatches, crane capacities up to 240 tonnes and on the latest series of 10 sister vessels 5 side loading facilities with a service speed of 19 knots.
The company’s policy of building a large number of sister vessels in series has resulted in the availability of many vessels of the same size. This creates utmost flexibility whilst also providing reliable and punctual service to customers with whom a long term partnership is the ultimate ambition.
The core activities of the Spliethoff Group are: Worldwide transportation of forest products and the movement of large projects, especially for the oil-, gas- and telecom industry. Next to this, worldwide parcel services have become a speciality.
For heavy duties Spliethoff can call upon the assistance of BigLift Shipping , formerly known as Mammoet Shipping. Their fleet of 13 purpose built heavy lift vessels provide lifting capacities upto 1400 tonnes and ro-ro capabilities for loads up to 2500 tonnes. They are the leading operators in the world wide heavy lift market. BigLift is now a fully integrated partner within the Spliethoff Group.
